Santos and Calgary Can’t Reach Deal

After negotiating for months trying to iron out a long term deal, it looks like Calgary might let star CF Resurrection Santos III III go to arbitration. Santos has been asking for a 6 year deal that averages over $22 million per year, while Calgary would be more comfortable with a contract closer to $18 million per season.

“I can’t worry about that right now,” Santos replied when asked about the situation. “I have more important things to focus on like winning a championship.”

If Santos gets his ask, he would have the second biggest salary in the league. The top salary right now is $24 million and Rockville probably regrets every dollar of it. The Pioneers would also put themselves in a bad cap situation if they agreed to Santos’ numbers.

With his current arbitration estimate of $16.3 million, the team would be carrying a salary of close to $115 million next season leaving little for free agents. The team might save $4-5 million by not offering arbitration to a few people or players not exercising options. The bigger problem comes in 2060 when the team would be over the cap with the extension. In 2061 the team would be close to the cap and” would have no money left to extend Stinson or Donadoni.

“I don’t talk about negotiations with the press.” GM Kevin Dickson said. “No matter what, Santos will be in a Calgary uniform next season.”
