Calgary Advances

After missing the playoffs for the past 6 years, Calgary not only made the playoffs but defeated New Orleans 4-1 in the Doubleday Series. The win advances the team to the Cartwright Cup where they will be facing the Charm City Jimmies. The Jimmies won the JL Atlantic division with a 94-68 record and then swept Montreal in the Doubleay.

“It is really nice to get to play in October again,” said Calgary GM Kevin Dickson. “I think this team has a chance to go all the way. It is one of the best teams we have ever put on the field.”

Calgary had the dominate offense in the JL this season, leading the league in nearly every hitting category. Charm City is no slouch with the bats either and has one of the best bullpens in the BBA.

Second baseman Bill Irvine, last year’s Gillstrom Award winner, took home the series MVP trophy. Irvine hit .611 in the series. LF Jeff Sawyers hit home runs in 4 out of the 5 games. Closer Edward Harrison saved 3 games in the series, giving up only 1 hit in 3.2 innings.
