Pioneers Bring Back Owens

Longtime Calgary reliever Dwight Owens has been hired as the pitching coach for the Short A Havana Cigars. He will be reunited with slugger Francisco Medina who is the hitting coach in Havana.

Owens pitched all 13 of his BBA seasons with the team from the north and finished his career with a 3.00 ERA, second best in Calgary history. The lefty’s career line is 46 wins, 29 losses and 47 saves. Primarily a setup man he had 150 holds in his 651 game career.

“I am glad to be back in the game after sitting on the sidelines last year,” Owens said. “I hope I can help these young guys make it to the bigs.”

Owens joins a long line of former Calgary players returning to coach in the organization. He is the 17th Pioneer on the organization’s current coaching staff.
