Brody Rumored to be Out
Rumors are flying in Calgary that the team may be getting ready to fire manager Nicholas Brody. In his 4 seasons skippering the Pioneers the team has failed to achieve a winning record. The 79-83 record posted this season has been his best.
Another factor could be the team’s ability to sign free agents. Several players refused to negotiate with the team last season due to their dislike of Brody and reportedly the same thing is happening again. Dissension and a losing record are not resume builders.
“I am not going to comment on personnel matters before they have been finalized,” said GM Kevin Dickson. “Right now he is the manager and that is where we are at.”
Brody has spent almost his entire career with the organization, 8 years as a player and the past 24 as a coach. He spent his final 3 playing seasons in Huntsville. Before moving up to Calgary Brody managed Quebec (A) and St. Paul (AAA) leading both teams to numerous playoff appearances. He career record as a manager is 1750-1356.
Part of the speculation on Brody is that the team has not yet named a pitching coach to replace Fox Mulder who retired at the end of the season. Rumor is that they were waiting for a decision on Brody first so if they made a change the new manager could have input on the coaching vacancy. Brody, 63, has not commented on the situation.
If Brody is out, speculation is that either St. Paul manager Carl Long or Duluth manager Tony Franco will get the job. Both led their teams to championships this season and are former Calgary players and long time minor league coaches
