Chenowith = Backhouse
It was a sad day in Calgary when Adam Backhouse opted out of his contract after the 2053 season. It was even sadder when he signed with Hawaii for less money than he would have made if he had stayed. The Pioneers went out and signed Robert Chenowith as a replacement, a little older and a little cheaper. The fans were not excited.
Well now that we have a season under our belts, lets compare how the two players did
Backhouse 695 PA, 97 R, 211 H, 23 D, 44 HR, 132 RBI, .313 BA, .884 OPS, 2.4 WAR
Chenowith 740 PA, 109 R, 202 H, 44 D, 37 HR, 146 RBI .293 BA, .869 OPS, 3.0 WAR
Chenowith also had 8 triples and 9 stolen bases. Backhouse had a triple.
On the surface it looks like the Pioneers did alright for themselves. Backhouse hit more homers, but Chenowith had 89 extra base hits compared to 68 for Backhouse. Backhouse was a major RBI producer when he was with Calgary, so was Chenowith this year.
It looks like both teams did ok in free agency.
