Pioneers Hire Pierce to Manage Havana

The Calgary Pioneers announced today that retired pitcher Jefferson Pierce has been hired to manage the team’s Short A team in Havana. Pierce played 15 years in Calgary before retiring after the 2051 season.

“I am very happy to get this opportunity with this great organization. I look forward to working with those youngsters in Havana and hope to be back in Calgary before too long,” Pierce said.

“Black Lightning”, as he was called was a 6 time All Star for the Pioneers and finished his career 176-129, with a 4.14 ERA. He is the team career leader in wins, losses, games started, innings pitched and strikeouts. With 2919 K’s he finished just short of the magic 3000 mark.

“I sure wish I could have pitched one more year to hit 3000. That and I regret never pitching a no hitter. I had a couple of one hitters, but never a no no,” Pierce said. “And of course we never won a championship when I was there, we won the JL in 2046, but never the big one.”
