Stinson Wins Calgary Triple Crown, Again
For the second season in a row, first baseman Larry Stinson won Calgary’s triple crown. Stinson led the team with a .309 batting average, 45 home runs and 119 RBIs. In his two seasons with the Pioneers, Stinson has hit .312, 88 HR, 237 RBIs and a 1.002 OPS. Trading for Stinson may go down as one of GM Kevin Dickson best moves in his career.
This season marked the first in a six year contract that Stinson signed last season. If Calgary decides to break up the team, he would be the biggest name on the block. However, it is more likely that Stinson sticks with Calgary and the team builds around him.
The 28 year old is having a Hall of Fame career. He has already surpassed 1500 hits and is closing in on 400 home runs and 1000 RBIs. For the WAR lovers out there he has 48.6 in 8 seasons. Add to that a Silk Award, 5 Pucketts (soon to be 6), 4 All Star selections and he won the Gillstrom his rookie year. The only active players that have a better OPS than Stinson’s ,995 are Juan Rivera and Manobu Shimizu. Nice company.
“We have always had a guy that our offense has been built around. We had Bombo, then Johnnie Iraq, followed by Terry Cochran and then Hector. I think Larry might be the best of them all,” said GM Kevin Dickson.
