Ottoboni Tops in Saves
Joel Ottoboni led the entire BBA this season with 40 saves, reaching that plateau for the second time in his career. He saved 46 games in 2041 when he won the Egan Award. His 2.52 ERA this year was also his best since 2041. Ottoboni also passed Silas Thompson as the Calgary career saves leader this season with 345. Thompson is the team’s long time pitching coach.
The closer went 1-8 this year to go along with his 40 saves and also led the JL with 42 shutdowns and 54 games finished. Notorious for blowing a lot of saves some seasons, he only had 3 blown saves this year.
“I don’t mind seeing my record broken,” Thompson said. “As his coach I think I should get some credit for his new record too!”
Ottoboni has the all time best WHIP for Calgary at 1.03 in 771.2 innings. Thompson has always worked with his pitchers to limit baserunners and Ottoboni is his prize pupil. He also is at the top of the career leaderboards with his 6.5 K/BB ratio, nearly 2 better than 2nd place. His 661 games pitched ranks 7th all time for the team and if he pitches his typical 70 plus games in 2050 that will take him to 3rd. Only 29, Ottoboni could hold several Calgary records before he is done with his career.

Re: 2049-4 Ottoboni Tops in Saves
Looking at this TN may me realize a major different in tactics for the JL and FL. The JL had 5 guys with 33 or more saves. The leader in the FL had just 29. Obviously the FL squads are less inclined to use a traditional closer.

Re: 2049-4 Ottoboni Tops in Saves
I dabbled a little with the stopper thing a couple seasons back and it didn’t work well for me. Too set in my ways probably.
