Bell Has Career Season

Calgary second baseman Scott Bell quietly had the best season of his career. Bell finished hitting .301, 48 doubles, 48 stolen bases and an .818 OPS. He was recognized for his efforts by being selected to his first All Star game in his 7th season.

The Pioneers play in a park that a player with a little speed can stretch singles into doubles. This is the second time that Bell has hit 48 in a season, teammate Larry Stinson hit 47 this year. Bell’s 48 stolen bases were significantly higher than his previous season total of 31. While he doesn't generate the publicity of some of the league's middle infielders, Bell has proven he has a solid bat.

In the field it is a different story. Bell's -.07 ZR is better than typical, but certainly not what you would like to see out of a middle infield bat. His glove is more suited for 3B, but the team needs him in the middle. He has one season left on is contract and will earn $7.2 million in 2049. It is unclear at this point if the team is planning on trying to sign him to an extension or if they are going to let him play out his contract and take the potential comp pick.
