Juan Gets #3000

One of the highlights of the Calgary Pioneer’s season was Juan Karyabwite getting his 3000th base hit on May 12th. He became the 22nd player in BBA history to reach this level and the first player to hit over 3000 hits entirely with Calgary.

“I am so lucky to have had the chance to play this game for so long and all of it in Calgary,” Karyabwite said. “This is definitely the highlight of my career, but I would trade all of it for a championship.” Onec again the Pioneers made the playoffs, only to be eliminated in the first round.

After an All Star season in 2047, Karyabwite became a part time player this season again. For only the second time in his career he finished with less than 100 hits and only hit .259 for the year. A career .303 hitter, the .259 marked the lowest of his career. He did come back strong hitting over .300 in August and September. The 36 year old has not signed an extension for next season and right now it isn’t certain whether he plans to hang it up or come back for another season.

Karyabwite has spent all 17 of his BBA seasons with Calgary, breaking in as a 20 year old in 2032. He would go on to win the Gillstrom Award for his rookie season and led the FL in batting average. Since then he had notched just about every achievement a player can earn. He has won 6 Zimmer Awards for being the league’s best fielder in LF, twice he has been awarded the Puckett, 4 times an All Star and 3 times a playoff series MVP.

His 3049 hits ranks 19th all time. Every player with more hits is in the Hall of Fame. He ranks 16th with 796 stolen bases and 17th with 598 doubles. Interestingly, his highest leaderboard rank is 10th with 102 sacrifice flies.
