Pioneers Release Arellano
The Pioneers released pitcher Jose Arellano today after 5 seasons with the team. The team tried to trade Arellano this season, even putting him on waivers in September. Releasing Arellano frees up $6.5 million in cap space for next season and gives the disgruntled hurler the chance to move onto another team or league.
“Jose did a good job for us, but it was time to part ways,” manager Terry Cochran told the press. Arellano was not available for comment.
Behind the scenes the team had never been satisfied with his performance. He was the main player in a 2042 six player deal with Omaha when the team hoped that he would fill a hole in the rotation. After a good season in 2043, he struggled the next season and lost his spot in the rotation in 2045. Last year he redeemed himself winning 11 games out of the bullpen, but followed it with a mediocre season this year. The team has several players stuck at AAA that can fill his spot.
