Arellano Shines in Pen

Jose Arellano has finally found his place in Calgary and that is in the bullpen. Arellano is 9-1 this season with a 2.62 ERA, by far the best he has pitched since coming over to the team in 2042. The team tried him as a reliever last season, but it was this year that he found his groove.

Arellano came over to the Pioneers in the same deal that brought in Alfonso Trinidad. The team needed a starting pitcher and he put in a respectable 13-12, 4.05 ERA season for them in 2043. However, the next year he dropped off to 10-15, 5.28 ERA and a WHIP of 1.52. He started off last season even worse, got moved to the bullpen and flailed there as well. The team shopped him this off season but fortunately had no takers.

As a middle reliever Arellano leads the team in wins and has pitched in 49 games, most on the team. He doesn’t strike out a ton of batters, but he keeps them off base posting a 1.18 WHIP. Due to the low strikeout numbers he won’t get the All Star votes he deserves. He was the only Calgary player that the team’s GM voted for this year.

The 29 year old is making $5.6 million this year and will get $6.5 million each of the next 2 seasons. That is a lot for a middle reliever, but if he continues to pitch as he has this year it will be worth it.
