Karyabwite Ready for 2nd Rodeo

Calgary fans are happy that left fielder Juan Karyabwite has signed on to play 3 more seasons in Calgary. Karyabwite signed a 3 year deal for $6 million per season. Last season his agent asked for $17 million per year to extend his contract and when the team gave him a flat no he tried the free agent market. He lowered his demands and chose to come home after firing his agent.

“I am glad we were able to work things out,” Karyabwite said. “I started my career here and I hoped to be able to finish it here. Hopefully I can help this team win a championship before I retire.”

Karyabwite is one of the most popular players in team history and ranks near the top of the leaderboard in several categories. A 6 time Zimmer awardee and 2 time Puckett winner, he finished last season with 2586 career hits, the leader among active players and 755 career steals, second only to Mons Raider among actives. He is expected to take over the team all time lead in hits this year and is already Calgary’s all time steals leader.

Winning both the Gillstrom award and the Frick League batting crown in his rookie 2032 season, Karyabwite has been a story of consistency. Only once has he had less than 180 hits and has hit over .300 in 9 of his 13 seasons. He won a second batting title in 2036 yet had his best season the year before when he hit .353. Some “experts” wrote him off after his poor 2043 campaign when he hit a dismal .248, nearly 60 points below his career average, but he bounced back last year hitting .313. Not just a slap hitter, he has also averaged 40 doubles and almost 20 homers a year during his career. In fact his 514 doubles are also tops among active players.
