Trail Droppings 2043-5 Morris Joins Staff in Havana
Morris Joins Staff in Havana
Jason Morris has been hired by Calgary to take over as the Havana Cigars new pitching coach. Havana is the Short A team in Calgary’s system. Morris played 9 seasons in Calgary, 6 as the team’s closer.
“I am pleased to announce that Jason is rejoining our organization,” said GM Kevin Dickson. “He was a great player for us and he showed last year that he would make a great coach.”
Morris left Calgary in 2038 and bounced around the BBA the next 4 seasons. Last year he signed a minor league deal with the Pioneers and split his time between Quebec and Duluth. He went 5-3 with 12 saves and threw 70 innings. When the team indicated that they would hire him as a coach, he announced his retirement as a player at the end of the season.
“I enjoyed working with the younger guys last year and when they talked to me about transitioning into coaching I thought it was time,” Morris said.
A 2 time All Star, Morris ranks 4th in Calgary with 228 saves. His career numbers with the Pioneers are 44-48-228, 3.62 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP. While he never won a title with Calgary he did win a Landis with Las Vegas in 2040 when he was 5-0 with a 2.37 ERA.

4th with 228 saves... sheesh, it'd almost like Calgary wins a lot.
