Soriano Named Hitting Coach in Quebec
Calgary great and BBA Hall of Famer Mario Soriano has been named as the new hitting coach for the Quebec Capitals. Soriano was inducted into the Calgary Pioneers HOF this year and the BBA HOF at the beginning of last season.
“I am thrilled to be able to begin the next chapter of my career with Calgary,” Soriano said. “This was always the favorite place I played and I hope after a couple of years in Quebec I can get back to the BBA.”
Soriano is one of the few BBA players to achieve 3000 hits and is 10th all time in the BBA. He is 6th in stolen bases and he is the all time later in getting hit by pitch. Hopefully he won’t be teaching the kids to follow in his footsteps there.
“With Pat’s retirement we needed to hire a hitting coach and it came down to two Mario’s, Soriano and Balderas,” said GM Kevin Dickson. “We went with Soriano because we wanted to add another coach that would teach contact and speed. Balderas will help us out as a scout this year.”
Soriano spent 13 years with Calgary playing center field. He won 2 of his 3 Puckett Awards with Calgary and 4 of his 6 All Star appearances were with the Pioneers. Unfortunately, he never got the chance to win a Landis.
