Mendoza Wins AAA Award
Outfielder Arturo Mendoza has been awarded the GL Steve Garvey, Jr. Batter Award as the best hitter in the Granville League this year. He was also awarded the Platinum Stick Award for LF.
“Mendoza is BBA ready and I wish we had a spot for him,” said GM Kevin Dickson. “I’d hate to trade him, but I have had a couple of teams sniffing around.”
Mendoza came over from Chicago in the Cochran trade and then went on to win the Batter of the Month Award in August and September. He hit .340, with 26 home runs and 108 RBIs. He had a .704 SLG and 1.097 OPS. He is a lefty that can hit lefties along with righties.
“Winning this award is great, but I’d rather have the championship and a chance to play in Calgary,” Mendoza said. Calgary lost the Big One to Quincy this season.
The 21 year olds chances of getting up to Calgary this year are slim. The team is set in the outfield and DH. If there is an injury to one of the starters he could be called up, but given his talent and readiness he is just as likely to end up traded to another BBA team.
