Calgary Announces Staff Changes

With the retirement of two of their veteran coaches, the Pioneers have had to make some changes to their coaching staff. The immediate need was to fill the bench coach position in Calgary, but that caused a chain reaction throughout the system.

“Change is just part of the game,” GM Kevin Dickson said. “These retirements created a hole in our coaching staffs, but we have great coaches ready to step up and fill their shoes.”

The first change was to move Steve Thomas from being the pitching coach to taking on the bench coach role in Calgary. Thomas has been with the team since 2010 when he broke in as a pitcher. He became a coach in 2027 and has served the team at almost every level. He moved up to Calgary in 2040 where he joined manager Terry Cochran who he played with during his career.

Replacing Thomas, as the new pitching coach, will Silas Thompson the pitching coach at Saint Paul. Thompson is another former Calgary player and long time coach in the system. He is the team’s all time saves leader with 328. He had spent 9 seasons coaching pitchers at AAA.

Perry Eccles has been moved up to replace Thompson in AAA and Bryan Vogel will replace the retired Pat Curry as the hitting coach there as well. The team has 3 coaching vacancies in it’s system and several former Calgary players are under consideration for the positions.

Let’s hope he doesn’t have to make too many trips to the mound. Games will take 4 hours just watching him waddle to the mound and back.
