Pioneers Winning Awards

While the Calgary Pioneers 24-29 record is not what the fans were hoping for, several players are having great seasons and the rest of the BBA has taken notice.

4/14/42 - Juan Karyabwite was recognized as the JL Player of the Week. He hit .414 with 5 HR, 10 runs and 13 RBIs. Three of his 5 home runs came in one game, on April 8th, 2 in one inning. Karyabwite’s feat was featured in a previous article. It was the third POW award in his career.

5/12/42 - Francisco Medina was selected as the JL Player of the Week. He hit .542 with 3 HR and 9 RBIs. Medina hit 51 HR last season and 48 in 2040. He is on pace to beat those numbers this season. This was the 2nd time he has won a POW award.

5/26/42 - Chairman Mao is named the JL Player of the Week. He hit .435 with 6 HR and 13 RBIs. Mao is leading the BBA with 66 RBIs and is 2nd with 24 HR. He is on pace to hit 73 HR and drive in 202. This is the 3rd time he has won a POW award.

6/1/42 - Francisco Medina is named the JL Player of the Month for May. He hit .436, 17 HR, 28 Runs and 33 RBIs in the month. On May 26 Medina hit 3 HR in a game for the 2nd time in his career, the only Pioneer to achieve this feat.

6/2/42 - Francisco Medina is named JL Player of the Week. He hit .611, 6 HR, 12 RBIs and a 2.460 OPS. This was his 2nd POW this season and 3rd of his career. He is currently leading the entire BBA with 25 HR and is 2nd with 60 RBIs. He is projected to hit 76 HR and drive in 183 runs.

Medina has hit 214 HR in 4 and 1/2 seasons. He has driven in over 100 runs each of the past 4 seasons. Maybe this year he will finally get selected to play in an All Star game.
