Karyabwite Wins 5th Zimmer

It has been quite a year for Pioneer left fielder Juan Karyabwite. He broke the 2000 plateau for hits this season and surpassed 1000 runs scored. Karyabwite capped it off by winning his 5th Yogi Zimmer Diamond Glove Award for LF. While it isn’t the trophy he really wanted, it is a nice consolation prize.

Karyabwite received 23 votes easily besting New Orleans’ Virgil Shafer. Karyabwite posted a 12.1 ZR while Shafer had a 10.1. The two were very close in most defensive categories. Shafer won the Zimmer in 2039.

Karyabwite, who has played all 10 seasons with Calgary, is one of the league’s most underrated players. Despite his outstanding play, he has only been selected to 2 all star teams. He broke into the league with his Gillstrom winning season in 2032 when he led the FL in batting with a .338 average. He led the league again in 2036. Ironically he did not lead the league when he hit a personal best of .353in 2035.

Consistency is what you get with Karyabwite. A .312 career hitter, he has never hit below .270. He has topped 200 hits 5 times and scored over 100 runs 6 times. He is no slouch driving in runs either, topping 100 three times and averaging 95 RBIs per year. Additionally he has averaged 64 stolen bases and is Calgary’s all time leader.
