Pioneers Win Frontier Crown

The Calgary Pioneers clinched their first FL Frontier Division title with 3 games left in the season by sweeping the Boise Spuds. It was the first time the team has won the Frontier and the first division title since the team won the FL Pacific in 2034. This is the team’s last chance to win a Frick League title as Calgary along with the Frontier Division are moving to the Johnson League with next year’s expansion and realignment.

“I said when they announced these changes that we were going to go out on top,” GM Kevin Dickson said. “The first step was to win the division and now our goal is to win the whole thing.”

Calgary has only won the Frick League crown 3 times in it’s team history in 1982, 2018 and 2021. Both times the team won the title in the modern era, they went on to win the Landis. The team has won a division title 11 times in the club’s history, 6 times in the modern era. After missing the playoffs the past 3 seasons, Calgary can officially say that the team’s rebuild is over.

Dickson pulled off more deals this season than any year in recent memory, combining young talent from the farm, with a core of existing players and newcomers. Despite all the moves it took the team until the final week of the season to clinch the title over their tough competitors from Edmonton and Seattle. Edmonton somehow managed to stay in the hunt even after they traded away several key players. The always talented Seattle team struggled with pitching issues this year, but like Edmonton still has a shot at a wild card.

Congratulations. I'm not sure how the voting will go, but it's a result worthy of the GM of the Year consideration.

I think there are several guys that deserve it this year. I can think of a couple that put together playoff teams with rubber bands and duct tape. In my 35 seasons I think top to bottom this is the strongest group of GMs we’ve had.

This was definitely the most exciting season up to the playoffs that I've had in the BBA. Congrats on winning the Frontier. I'm excited to see our battle in the playoffs. Good luck!
