Calgary Fires Green, Hires New AGM
Harry Green has been fired as the Calgary Pioneers Assistant GM. The team has hired Alfonso Martinez from the Dominican Republic to replace him. Green was reportedly in trouble for talking to freely with the press recently. GM Kevin Dickson denied that had anything to do with Green’s dismissal.
“First off Harry wasn’t fired, we just didn’t renew his contract,” Dickson said. “Since he is no longer with the team I will have nothing more to say about him, we just wanted to go in a different direction. We think Alfonso gives us a better chance to scout and sign international free agents.”
The team had missed on several of their recent IFA signings, after several stellar signings in the days before Green came to the club. Martinez, a former minor league right fielder, has no management experience. At only 41, it will be interesting to see how he handles the high pressure job. Unlike most staff signings, Martinez has no connection to the Calgary system.
“I’d like to thank the Pioneers for giving me this opportunity,” Martinez said. “I never made it to the show with Madison, now I get the chance with Calgary.”
Green departed the team’s facility before news broke of the staff shakeup and could not be reached for comment.
