St. Paul Sweeps Awards

Calgary’s AAA affiliate, the St. Paul Riverhawks swept the post season awards in the Rupert Horn Memorial League. The team finished with a 93-42 record, best in the league, but was surprisingly eliminated in the second round of the playoffs. Despite the disappointing end to the season, four members of the team were recognized for their outstanding performance this season.

Outfielder Werner McConnell, Jr., was recognized with the GL Steve Garvey, Jr. Batter Award as the best hitter in the league. McConnell hit .310 with a 1.012 OPS, 35 HR and 102 RBIs. He is expected to make his BBA debut next season. Teammate Rafael Solis finished 8th in the voting.

The top pitcher and winner of the GL Mitch Cain Hurler Award was Mike Bragg. Bragg was 14-5, 2.66 ERA before getting called up to Calgary where he made 6 late season starts. Bragg will stay in Calgary next year either in the rotation or the bullpen. Teammates Michail Nagabin finished 3rd in the voting and Clinton Womack finished 5th

The top reliever and winner of the GL Reliever of the Year Award was Jose Reyes. The 31 was a runaway winner receiving almost triple the votes of the second place finisher. Reyes was 5-2, 28 Saves, 1.85 ERA. He hasn’t pitched in the big leagues since 2035 and hopefully his performance will get him noticed either in Calgary or with another team willing to trade for him. Fellow Riverhawk Leon Seyh finished 3rd in the voting,

Rounding out the Award sweep was manager Nicholas Brody who was voted the GL Manager of the Year. Brody, a former second baseman with Calgary, won it in his first season in St. Paul leading the team to a league leading 93-42 record. He had previously managed Calgary’s A league affiliate in Quebec from 2032-2037. He has made the playoffs every year that he has managed which has definitely gotten him noticed in Calgary.
