There’s Another Sanchez in Town

The Calgary Pioneers recently bought left handed screwballer Raul Sanchez from the Hawaii Tropics. The team immediately put him in the rotation with mixed results. Sanchez put up a 3-3 record with a 5.61 ERA. He joins Juan Sanchez in the Pioneers starting lineup giving Calgary two pitchers that finished in the top 7 pitchers in the Frick with walks.

“Raul is somebody I have tried to get a couple of times in his career,” GM Kevin Dickson said. “I’ve always like guys that can throw a screwball and we haven’t had a great one since Ace Young. In fact I had Ace scout for us and he said he thought Raul had a couple more years in the tank.”

The team has an option on Sanchez for next season that would pay him $3.9 million. Whether the team executes it or not may depend on what Jimmy Greenwood does with his opt out. If Greenwood stays the team will likely move either Sanchez or fellow lefty Noonien Soong. If Greenwood leaves for free agency the team will likely keep both.
