Soriano Promoted to Calgary

It looks like one Hall of Famer is going to be replaced by another. Mario Soriano has been promoted to serve as Calgary's hitting coach, replacing the great Hector Cano. Soriano had been the hitting coach at AA Edmonton. With his promotion and retirements, the entire coaching staff at Edmonton is now vacant.

Soriano was a great player, first with Indianapolis and then with Calgary. He finished his career with 3314 hits and 948 stolen bases. That puts him #25 on the all time hit list and #6 in stolen bases. He was a 6 time All Star and a 3 time Silver Slugger. Soriano's career spanned 20 seasons, 12 in Calgary.

After his retirement following the 2040 season, Soriano rejoined the organization in 2043 as the hitting coach for A Quebec. He was promoted to Edmonton just last season. So far Soriano has spent 33 seasons in the Calgary organization.

What is interesting with Soriano's promotion is that with a career as a base stealer he is joining the team that dominated the BBA in stealing bases last year. This seems to be a sign that the team is going to continue to focus speed over power in the future.
