Pennybags Retires
Edmonton Jackrabbits and former Calgary pitcher Milburn Pennybags has announced his retirement from his coaching spot in Edmonton. Pennybags was the team's pitching coach the past 4 seasons and was in the same role when the team was in Duluth.
The 61 year old has spent 21 seasons coaching in the Calgary system. After stints in Rookie and Short A, Pennybags moved into his role with AA Duluth 13 years ago. The team made the playoffs in 11 of those seasons and won 2 championships.
Before his coaching days, Pennybags was a pitcher for the Calgary Pioneers for 9 seasons. He went 43-33, 4.38 ERA in 231 games. His best season was 2038 when he went 12-6-1, 3.41 ERA in 26 starts. As the team's 1st round pick in 2023, he never lived up to his potential but did turn it into a respectable coaching career.
Pennybags replacement has not been announced. Rumors are that Edwin Gilliam is in the mix although it is likely another coach will be moved up to AA with the new hire starting in a lower position.
