Justin Vaive took Warren Cox League by storm this year, and he did it all at the age of 21.
For his spectacular campaign, the Edmonton Jackrabbits star has been named the 2061 Donaldo League Jorge Olivas Batter Award recipient.
"To be considered amongst the best in the league is overwhelming," said the center fielder.
On the season he compiled a .298 batting average to go with a .406 on-base percentage. The native of Buffalo, New York also added 23 doubles, 17 triples, 6 home runs, 59 RBIs and 100 runs scored.
He received 24 first place votes out of a possible 32. Leonardo Arevalo of the Saint Joseph Butchers finished second in voting with 6 first place votes, while Nestor Saatsakis of the Trenton Generals finished third with 2 first place votes.

Leonardo Arevalo - Saint Joseph Butchers - 6 - 296

Vaive led the league with a 8.7 WAR, hitting .298 and stealing 127 bases. Last season he finished 2nd in MVP voting in A ball with a 8.8 WAR and 141 stolen bases. Over the past 3 seasons he has 397 SB and has only been caught 30 times. Vaive also won the CF Silver Slugger Award.
Fans in Calgary are looking forward to seeing this speedster in the big leagues next season. Along with his speed he has a glove worthy of CF (12.3 ZR). He looks to be a truly unique talent.

Sabir Grabs DNL Todd Demko Hurler Award
Friday, September 30th , 2061
The Donaldo League announced today that Omar Sabir has been chosen the Todd Demko Hurler Award winner for 2061. The Edmonton hurler had everything working for him as he cruised to an outstanding 15-6 record.
Sabir put up an impressive 2.57 ERA in his award-winning season. He started 28 times, worked 171.2 innings, yielded 155 hits, walked 29, fanned 148 and held opposing hitters to a .243 average.
He received 32 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Jaime Canales of the Burlington Big Eyed Fish finished second in voting, while Diego Cuevas of the Edmonton Jackrabbits finished third.
Player - Team - First Place - Total Points
Omar Sabir - Edmonton Jackrabbits - 32 - 224
Jaime Canales - Burlington Big Eyed Fish - 0 - 115
Diego Cuevas - Edmonton Jackrabbits - 0 - 61
Sabir will move up to AAA in 2062 and is a long shot to make the BBA. Cuevas, who finished third on the other hand has a very good shot at making Calgary's bullpen next year. With 4 good pitches the only thing holding Cuevas back from a rotation job is his lack of stamina.
SP Fei-hsien Hang of the Edmonton Jackrabbits honored: Wins the 2061 WCL (AA) DNL Reliever of the Year Award.
Reliever of the Year Award Goes to Hang

The Donaldo League Reliever of the Year Award for 2061 has been bestowed on Edmonton Jackrabbits relief specialist Fei-hsien Hang.
The 27-year-old bullpen ace, out of Hsinchu, Taiwan, nailed down the award with 4 saves in 41 relief appearances, 69 strikeouts in 96 innings and a record of 6 wins and 5 losses to go with his 2.91 ERA.
He received 25 first place votes out of a possible 32. Lenya Nikushkin of the Trenton Generals finished second in voting with 7 first place votes, while Pancho Mendez of the Providence Bees finished third.
Player - Team - First Place - Total Points
Fei-hsien Hang - Edmonton Jackrabbits - 25 - 146
Lenya Nikushkin - Trenton Generals - 7 - 110
Pancho Mendez - Providence Bees - 0 - 14
Hang is a journeyman minor leaguer. So congratulations on his trophy but the big leagues are not likely in his future.
Pierce Wins DNL Manager of the Year Trophy
Thursday, September 29th , 2061
Jefferson Pierce has molded the Edmonton Jackrabbits into a top-flight Donaldo League team. The 2061 Skipper of the Year came into spring training with a commitment to getting the most out of his Jackrabbits.
"I told them I had no preconceived notions about them, that all of them were blank slates as far as I was concerned. I told them to learn my system and we would win. I told them all the spots on the roster were open, that the best players would play -- young or old, rookie or vet -- and that I expected them to hustle, to work hard, and play as a team. They bought into it and made me look good."
And Jefferson Pierce certainly got the most out of his ballclub. The Jackrabbits wrapped up the season in first place in the Donaldo League Mid-Central with a 91-49 record.
Pierce has guided his team to 3 division titles in the past 4 seasons. With openings likely on Calgary's coaching staff for 2062, Pierce could get one or at the least move up to AAA. Pierce played for the Pioneers, before moving to the dugout, and is the team's all time leader in wins and strikeouts.
