Crawdad Chronicles 11.02 - Young Pitching Staff Shines

It was a disappointing 2011 season overall for the Crawdads, but one part of the team that gives great promise for the next decade or so...is the starting pitching Staff.

General Manager Jim Roberts believes this staff can keep pace, if not out-pace the great staff put together by rival Marquette.

Star SP Mike Williamsonly still has another 5-6 years in the tank, the young trio of Albert Martinez (24), Jimmy McCabe (25), and Bob Latrobe (22)

McCabe and Latrobe were both rookies this season. Latrobe started the season 4-0, but had a rough month of August and finished 8-7 with a 4.75 ERA. McCabe, a preseason ROY favorite, finished 11-12 with a 4.89 ERA. For his part, Albert Martinez finished 11-14 with a 3.64 ERA marking a significant improvement in from his 2010 rookie season.

With one full year under the belt for Latrobe and McCabe, New Orleans is expecting all three of them to improve for 2012. If the bats start hitting...this team can do some damage. Unfortunatly the crawdads finished 10th in the FL in Runs scored. Hard to win games when the other team scores more than you do...

To make matters better, those three are expected to be joined by Doug Davis (22) next season. Davis was the key centerpiece in the Tipper Kengos trade a few seasons ago.

You're smoking some crack if you think that staff can compete with Strath-Daffy-Martin... but having said that it certainly could be right there in that next tier (with the likes of CHI, VAL, etc.) I predicted NO would be the next great MBBA dynasty a few years ago and I am never wrong... so its only a matter of time now!
