New Orleans has released OF Kuan Liau

Less than a year after giving Liau a $27.5M contract (the lasrgest in the MBWBA), New Orleans has released Kuan Liau, effectively voiding his team option for the 2012 season.

GM Jim Roberts stated that he had hoped that Liau might be able to provide some power and skill to a struggling lineup. Liau only played in 98 games, hitting 17 HRs and .252 batting average. The results were a far cry from what New Orleans had hoped for when they signed him last offseason.

New Orleans dangled Liau late in the season at the trade deadline, but was unable to find a trade partner willing to eat his salary.

New Orleans has a good young group of OFs, and now has some cash freed up to go after some high priority Free Agents in the Offseason.
