GM Jim Roberts - often one to pay close attention to the finances of his club - allowed the team to splurge a bit in 2061. But that splurge, combined with a sub-par performance on the field, netted the team with a $25M loss heading into the 2062 season.

"it will make things a bit tight - for sure" GM Jim Robers said. "We'll probably need to pull afew bucks in we werent planning on".

Some unplanned expenses this year - New Orleans spent 11M on Draft Picks, 19M on International League Picks, and another 3.1 in Misc. Player expenses for players released during the season. In addition, Gate revenue dropped $25M from 77M to 53M.

Look for New Orleans to be a little less active next year, especially in International League Picks to help right the ship. New Orleans currently enters the offseason with an expected payroll of only 71M, and a projected profit of 48M...assuming no increase to gate revenue. So not all is lost.

"Its not how we want to operate, generally" Robert said. But we had some things we needed to take care of this year. Rebuilding a far system is a priority right now. We need to keep remaning competitive at the big league level, but the farm system is our future - and we're focusing on that. And sometimes that costs money.

Indeed, New Orleans has the #1 ranked farm system - aided by some of those IFA players.
