Crawdad Chronicles 58.05 - Angwin proves Crawdads Right

Post by JimBob2232 » Sat Apr 13, 2024 5:04 am

The New Orleans Crawdads made a huge splash last offseason signing OF Jamie Angwin to a MONSTER 6 year 83M contract.

It was a gamble. Angwin was coming off a career year with Madison where he hit 30 HRs, Stole 31 bases and had a 6.3 WAR - which some crtics saw as an abberation in a contract year.

But New Orleans took a chance, and 2058 proved it was a sustainable pace. Angwin hit 32 HRs, walked a league leading 74 times, and had a 5.0 WAR, and made his first all start game - all while performing admirally as an everyday left fielder. Stil, New Orleans was a little disapointed in his play in Cernter Field - which truthfuilly was the hole they were hoping he would fill. His -2.7 ZR in 34 games was a little unsustainable in and so early in the season they moved him to LF where he played the majority of the season.

Now that the monster first season ($20M) is out of the way, Angwin turns 33 this year. For all practical purposes he is on a 3 year 39M deal from here (a few unikely to be exeuted team options exist after that). If he can put up a 4-5 WAR pace over the next 3 years, New Orleans will be very happy.
