Crawdad Chronicles 57.03 - New Orleans goes Shopping for Playoffs

The 'Dads - who have now clinched their 35th playoff berth in the modern era (3rd all time behind Las Vegas and Sacremento) -have some serious holes to fill.

They stood pat at the trade deadline, but with the recent injury to Juan Donestavez, they recently went shopping for some final peices to mold them into a playoff team. Here is what they fonud in the bargain basement bin late in the year.

OF Hyeon-Uk Hong - Signed the 31 year old to a 1 year $3M prorated contract, Hong is intended to provide some pop to the outfield. He played last year with San Fernando, but has sat out this season. In 7 games with the crawdads he is hitting .355 with 2 HRs. NO homes he can be fresh and carry that prodution into the playoffs.

SS Jeremy Webb - Claimed off waivers from Montreal in July, Webb is a decent infielder, and sub-par bat. But that is good enough to get him in the lineup frequently. He has started 31 games for the 'Dads since coming over - and has been a stabalizing defensive force, and marginal offensive numbers (.241 with a 0.4 WAR)

2B Thomas Duran - Claimed off waivers from Chicago in August, Duran hasnt done a ton - hitting .250 with marginal defense. Still - he plugged a big hole along with webb in the defense department.

1B Alfredo Rosas - Signed the 36 year old in September. After playing for Mexico City last year - he has been home this season until getting the call. In 6 games, he has gone 7 for 24 with 2 HRs.

It may not be a ton, but its some good depth. Although New Orleans hasnt found a lot of trading partners recently, they are playing the Waiver wire and free agency wickets hard trying to find that last missing peice to be able to win a few games in the playofffs.

Hmph. So much for that plan. These guys arent eligible for the Playoffs as they werent on the roster before the sept call-up. Whoops
