John Lucas filled a very important role for New Orleans in 2056. He has a league high 18 wins, and ended the season with a 3.43 ERA, 4.7 WAR and 3.82 FIP.

Lucas is only 25 years old, but he has spent parts of the last 5 seasons with the big club - making him eligible for a big payday. 2057 would be his final season of arbitration - and New Orleans would like to lock him up for seasons to come.

GM Jim Roberts noted that New Orleans has a lot of cap room for 2057. Indeed that is true. Given the pending free agency of some big salary players, and release of the man-child, they have somewhere around 35-40M to spend in FA.

Look for New Orleans to use a portion of that on locking up Lucas.
