Crawdad Chronicles 53.01 - Awful Year

Post by JimBob2232 » Sun Feb 05, 2023 6:30 am

After winning the Landis in 2053 and making the playoffs the past 4 seasons, New Orleas was expected by most to be a contendera gain in 2053.

Instead - they flopped. Hard.

New Orleans finished 72-90. That is their second worst finish since the year 2000. Only the 70 win 2038 season was worse.

Injuries and Luck. Sadness and Apathy. Noting went their way. There was some hope after going 17-11 in June, but they followed that up with a mean reversed 11-15 in July and an appauling 8-20 with the sun beaming down in August.

As feared, pitching was a signifixant portion of the problem. The bullpen who carried the team for a while had a league worst 5.16 ERA.

Defense was also horendous - finishing last in defensive efficiency and zone rating (-80.3).

New Orleans is currently cap constrained, with big salaries on the books for Juan Donestavez, christian Garcia, Matt Reiley and Mal Fountain - so will need to get creative to turn it around for 2054 to avoid this misery.

Seems like you need some anti-depressants over there in jazz city.
