Crawdad Chronicles 52.05 - Todd has career year

Post by JimBob2232 » Fri Nov 11, 2022 8:42 am

It wasnt expected to be a flashy signing last off season. New Orleans knew they needed a solid backup catcher option. And C John Todd was the pick. Chosen mostly for his leadership skills and decent defense, Todd was the backup catcher this year.

But that backup wound up playing in 56 games, and wound up with a career high .254 average, well above his .211 career average. His 0.5 WAR was a nice addition as well.

But probably most significant was his leadership in the clubhouse. Players ravefd about the way he managed not only the pitching staff, but the rest of the team. OF Donestavez noted that he made them all better. He may be a backup - but he held us accountable every day. Love the energy he brought.

Todd now enters free agency - and New Orleans will need another backup catcher in 2053. Will they look back his way? only time will tell.
