New Orleand today declined to extend arbitration to 1B Brody Bond.
The 26 year old Bond has been with the crawdads for the last 7 seasons, and had one more year remaining on his rookie contract. this past year he earned 4.2M, but was expecting to receive over $5M in arbitration.
New Orleans GM Jim Roberts said the decision was a hard one. Bond has been an asset here - and an integral part to our 2051 champtionship team, but we just felt the money could be better spent elsewhere.
New Orleans will keep in touch with the first basemen - and if they can snag him back in free agency, it will certainly be something they would consider.
Some analysts agree. Spending $5M on a 1.1 WAR first basemen isnt the best use of funds. You can get that production much cheaper.
