Crawdad Chronicles 51.03 Appreciating Donestavez

Sometimes its hard to smell the roses when you are in the garden.

Unquestionably the best hitter ever in New Orleans was Rogelio Morales. In his BBA career, he hit 600 Home Runs and 3400 hits, and roughly the first half of that was with the crawdads. He was routiely putting up .330/.450/.580 slash lines. He was amazing. New Orleans leadership knew it...but they didnt KNOW it until he left and wound up on top of all the leaderboards.

Enter Juan Donestavez. Still just 31 years old, he doesnt have the same level of power Morales had, but still has 275 Home Runs in his 10 year career thus far. Thats good for #7 all time in New Orleans, 86 behind what morales had in his 13 years with the club. Donestavez has 1600 hits, 10th all time in New Orleans, and about 500 behind where Morales. Donestabez also had 448 stolen bases, which is 2nd all time in the Big Easy in a stat category Morales barely registered in.

Donestavez has won 2 Sawyer Silks (and likely would have won a 3rd in 2051 without an injury causing him to miss 1/3 of the season where he still had 6.2 WAR) - the same as Morales had (although he won a 3rd with Long Beach).

So New Orleans needs to take a step back and appreciate the greatness of Juan Donestavez. He is a likely Hall of Famer given a couple more years of production (and might already be there).

Stop and smell the Beignets!
