As the dust settles on 2047, New Orleans manager Jim Roberts is looking to 2048.
We had a decent year. Making the playoffs is the floor for us. But that’s not good enough here. We have been good, but not elite for some time. That needs to change.
Going into the off-season, New Orleans doesn’t stand to lose a ton. C Hsin Mei will reite or test free agency. CL Manuel Cruz - who has been a bullpen stud- will test free agency after tearing his rotator cuff this season. And a couple small cats and dogs.
They still have Jim Armstrong locked into a massive 16M contract next season - but even without that - they have some 20M in cap room to play with. They should be big players in free agency.
Look for New Orleans to try to find some pitching help - both in the rotation and the bullpen. And they will need a catcher since both their 2047 catchers are on expiring contracts. Mei could be a backup plan there - but at 37 his career is in the twilight phase.
And outfield is a spot they could shore up.
New Orleans also has a glut of middle infielders. Look for them to try to trade some of them.
