GM Jim Roberts has quietly begun having conversations around the league regarding star SP Jim Armstrong https://statspl.us/brewster/reports/new ... 16666.html . Rumor has it they disucssed it with some teams last season, but got gunshy.
Armstrong has been a stud. The 3 time all star has been in New Orleans for 8 seasons. He has ammassed nearly 1500 strikeouts on way to a 91-44 record, a career era of 3.62 and 28 WAR.
His stuff is just electric. One of the top strikeout pitchers in the league. He is loyal, extremely popular and a great work ethic. And he is only 28 years old and signed for 3 more seasons.
So why trade him? Well, New Orlenans pitching is strong. Christian Garcia and Gilberto Nevarez are solid. Waiting down in AAA are David Williams and Jimie McCabe. New Orleans is up agains the cap with 107.6M of potential salary. And New Orleans desperatly needs a bat after finishing LAST in the JL in hits and 10th or worse in every meaningful statistic.
Who knows if it will happen, but expect talks to heat up a bit this offseason. Would be sad to see him go, but it might be for the betterment of the franchise.

Wish I could fit his salary, but that's a lot of $$$ to fit under the cap.
