Crawdad Chronicles 45.01 - A look back at 2038 Projections

In 2038, GM Jim Roberts projected what the starting lineup would be for the Crawdads in 2043. We're a couple seasons late here - but wanted to look and see how it played out in reality

SP: 70%. Armstrong and Garcia are definitely for real. Pacy has exceeded expectations. Mendez became a complete disappointment, and Cruz has found his way as a back end reliever. Luckily a trade for Nevarez in 2039 saved our bacon - and Yamaguchi hung on a bit longer than expected.
MR: 40% . What i thought was a sad group has actually perfomed better than expected. Lacerda has dominated and been one of the best closers in the game. Lima was traded and had 2 GREAT seasons with Omaha as a SP, and a couple HORRIBLE ones. Tomas martinez has been serviceable as a AAAA guy and occasionally getting a callup. Tony Ramirez had a few average MR years, and is now over with the Boise AAA franchise. Quadrado developed a little slower, but will be penciled in as the #5 SP to start 2045.
C: 70%. Pedro Gomez was the guy i projected to be my catcher by now. But last year we flipped him to Portland where he has done very well. His power never really came in, making him somewhat of a disapointment, but never-the-less a solid player. C Hamiton was simlarly fliped to Omaha(to bring in Nevarez). His career numbers have been disapointing. The real winner here is C Klooster, who has beaten out the other 3 to be the crawdads starter. 2 time all star, and Gold Glove winner, he has been solid his first 4 years with the Crawdads.
1B 100% - Raul Fernandez has been solid. A +3/+4 WAR guy after taking over for Yancy Cravat. His batting avverage dipped to a disapointing .235 last season, but New Orleans hopes this is an anomoly with his .258 BABIP. He has also been hit by pitch a league leading 99 times the last 2 seasons. OUCH.
2B 0 % - Manny Guttierez has been a FLOP. So much so he has only played in 6 ML games. He was released by the Crawdads in 2044, and is now over with the Louisville Bears in teh Louisville organization.
SS 80% - Damek Korbel - A solid shortstop is hard to come by in the BBA. 2043 Zimmer award. 2-3 WAR/year guy. SS with some power and can play defense. Just traded to Las Vegas in 2045 offseason.
3B 20% - Lorenzo Gonzalez - what a disapointment - At one point he was the 33rd prospect in the game. Really the 2041 season is only thing to hang his hat on. He had 1.6 WAR that year. Now on waivers. 2039 top pick Mal Fountain now headlines 3B for the crawdads.
OF - 70%. Projection of Donestavez was spot on. Guy has been a beast. Rangel is a tough sell. 2040 newcomer of the year. Good speed and defense at a critical CF position (+5-6 ZR). Slugging percentage in teh .450 range. Seems like New Orleans could do better, but he is not bad enough to make it a priority. Jesus Baez - another flop. Currently sitting on the waiver wire as well as a roster cutdown move. Defense never got good enough. Has still not made his debut in New Orleans - and will likely need to wait another year for that to happen.
As for the others:
1B Mausarek - Turns out to be primarily a DH. Positive WAR. Good contact and SLG% help out. Good speed. unusual to see a DH as a leadoff hitter, but its what has been going on in NO for a couple years.
SS Sanchez - This will be his year to shine. With Korbel moving on, eyes turn to Sanchez. New Orleans will lose some defense and some power in the transition, but they hope Sanchez can hold his own so the drop off wont be too big.
OF Marcos Gonzalez - Shrug. not even sure who this guy was.
