Crawdad Chronicles 44.04 Maybe our SS aint bad

Post by JimBob2232 » Tue Nov 10, 2020 4:02 pm

New Orleans recently listened to an interesting podcast talking about how horrible SS are in the BBA. Today we look at New Orleans SS on the roster to see how they stack up.

Damek Korbel (65 Pot) was the primary starter in 2020. A reasonable 7/7/5/4/7 stat line, he hit .269/.332/.405 and 2.1 WAR in just 70 games due primarily to an elbow injury sidelining him for 3 months. It is rumored Korbel is asking for a contract extension in the 70M range - which might be more than New Orleans is willing to pay for his performance. But the recent podcast is rumored to be giving GM Jim Roberts pause. Korbel also won a diamond glove in 2043 and had a +7.2 ZR in limited play this year. Will be interesting to see how much a guy lke Korbel could get in FA should he see it in a couple years

Luis Dominguez (55 Pot) - when Korbel was out it was Dominguez that filled in. Hitting .243/.330/.397 and 0.8 WAR in 112 games. his -6.2 ZR might indicate SS is not his natural position.

SS Van Buren - 5/6/5/6/6 - not great there. 11/11/10 at 2B/SS/3B and 8/11/11/11 defensive ratings. There is a spot for him. +6.9 ZR in AAA at SS. But the bat is going to hold him back. .222/.316/351 in AAa just wont cut it.

SS Acostas (50 pot) - a mix of the rest of the team. Great speed. Marginal defense at SS. Probably not more than a AAAA guy.

SS Reyna (65 pot) - This is the guy the crawdads are counting on for the future after Korbel. 6/8/6/5/8. Above average speed. Solid defensive ratings.
