Crawdad Chronicles 43.01 Rule 5 Pickup shines in Big Easy

New Orleans bullpen was pretty solid this year. Finishing first the the Johnson with a 2.50 ERA. There is lots of reasons for that. Manuel Cruz https://statspl.us/brewster/reports/new ... 42858.html and his 1.56 ERA and his astounding .195 BABIP 0.73 WHIP and and 269 ERA+ in 75 innings. All star closer Renato Lacerdo https://statspl.us/brewster/reports/new ... 43620.html and his 41 saves, and Mitso Tenno https://statspl.us/brewster/reports/new ... 36644.html - a converted starter who put in a .189 BABIP, 214 ERA plus and 1.96 ERA and walked just 5 batters in 55 innings.

Great performances. But perhaps the most shocking performance was that of Rule 5 pickup Javier Gonzalez https://statspl.us/brewster/reports/new ... 33554.html. Sure his 3.12 ERA and 0.99 WHIP arent the stunning numbers of his peers, but he was able to hold down his end of the deal and had performances that would be welcome on any team in the league.

Originally a 4th round pick by Twin Cities in the 2033 draft, Gonzalez made it to the BBA in 2037. He struggled with Twin Cities. Playing in parts of 6 seasons, he put up a 5.46 ERA, and a whip of 1.58. He cleared wavers in Twin Cities and was eleigible for the 2043 rule 5 draft.

After having seasons of pitching woes - New Orleans GM Jim Roberts saw a low risk opportunity to give him a chance to make a big league roster again. If it didnt work out - we'd just send him back. But with the way he pitched this season - that wasnt necessary.

Although he didnt see any post season action - its likely the team will offer him arbitration for the 2044 season. Hopefully he can continue to build on his success again.
