Crawdad Chronicles 40.06 - New Orleans picking up Delgado Option

Post by JimBob2232 » Sun Dec 08, 2019 3:50 pm

Today, the New Orleans Crawdads have announced that they will be picking up the 2041 option on SP Claudio Delgado (https://statspl.us/brewster/reports/new ... 33353.html).

After a 20 win season in 2039, the now 28 year old Delgado signed a 2 year deal last offseason whch paid him 2.7M in 2040, and a team option for 4.9M in 2041. Although he only went 9-10 with a 5.41 ERA in his 2041 campaign, the team believes that he can still be a solid back of the rotation arm.

GM Jim Roberts noted "We believe in Claudio. And our commitment to him next season shores up one critical area in the offseason". Close observers to the team wonder if the 4.9M could be better put to use on the Free Agent market, but given the high demand for Starting Pitchers, its likely that New Orleans is getting a good deal. Delgado also holds a 950,000 buyout if New Orleans declined the option.

Delgado was on fire this postseason, going 2-0 with a 0.66 ERA in his 2 starts.

The Dads still hold $50M available for Free Agents, and it wouldnt be a total surprise to see them pick up another arm in the rotation and the bullpen.

Hopefully for the Dads, Delgado's 2041 campaign looks more like 2039 and less like 2040.
