Today the New Orleans crawdads selected 2 interesting players in the supplemental round of the BBA draft, and another in the 2nd round. Both players appear to be Starting Pitchers, but we suspect GM Jim Roberts will be looking to convert them if they have any chance at making the big club.
First up is SP Jose Oliverez. https://statspl.us/brewster/player/44961?page=ratings With just a 4/6/7 rating as a SP, the crawdads are hoping he will make a 7/6/7 RP once he converts to a MR. His 5 above average pitches (7/6/6/6/6 potential) should also bump up to maybe a 9/9 Slider and Curveball. Hopefully his velocity bumps to a 95 as well.
Secondly is SP Jim Hall https://statspl.us/brewster/player/49205?page=dash . A 5/6/5 SP with 5 avbove average pitches (8/6/6/6/4). The crawdads are hoping with a MR conversion he can bump to a 7/6/5 with a 10/8 pitch potential and a nasty 98MPH velocity. His control might still need a bump to be a servicable MR at the BBA level, but with the lack of prospects in this draft, he was the best that Jim Roberts could find.
Then in the 2nd Round, New Orleans contineud the trend with SP Eduardo Rojas https://statspl.us/brewster/player/44210?page=dash Rojas is a 4/5/6 potential pitcher with 6 pitches (7/6/6/6/4/4). After the conversion Jim Roberts hopes he bumps to a 7/5/6 with 2 pitches with a 9/8 potential.
All in all, not the type of prospects most want to have in the first 2 rounds....but MR is a weakness in the New Orleans system. Hopefully this helps provide some depth in a much needed area.
