The 2039 season should be interesting in the big easy. After a very disappointing 2038 season, most people expected the crawdads to lay low this offseason, struggle again through 2039, and keep rebuilding their farm system, which is one of the elite in the BBA.
But GM Jim Roberts surprised many when he went out and picked up catcher Hank Brewer https://statspl.us/brewster/reports/new ... 25213.html. Catching, a position of organizational strength, Brewer seemed like a luxury pickup, especially since C Joaquin Camacho https://statspl.us/brewster/reports/new ... 31027.html performed well last year, and Pedro Gomez (https://statspl.us/brewster/reports/new ... 33679.html)looks about ready to take over long term.
Then they spent money bringing in MR Jason Morris https://statspl.us/brewster/reports/new ... 21195.html to bolster the bullpen. Morris was teh closer for charm city last year.
Then they improved the OF, trading for DeClaun Crauen https://statspl.us/brewster/reports/new ... 35140.html and then signed 27 year old Of Williard Gagne https://statspl.us/brewster/reports/new ... 38046.html and his 3 WAR/season projection.
Moving to the IF, they picked up Harlan Moore (https://statspl.us/brewster/reports/new ... 17620.html), who (if healthy) provides a vastly improved defense over last season
Big moves for a team not expected to be a player in the off-season.
Now, pushing up against the cap, they are likely done in the FA market. We’ll always be looking for opportunities GM Jim Roberts said. But I think our financial situation dictates we can’t get much more done without moving some salary. We’d still like another SP or a top notch corner OF, or possibly a middle IF who is solid defensively. If we can find a way to fit that in; we’ll gladly make another move.
To be sure, New Orleans has had talks around the league looking for talent. But to date, nobody has been willing to take on Delgado’s or Laloosh’s salary.
Regardless of how the off-season finishes, New Orleans has made strides. OOTP says they added 6 WAR. GM Jim Roberts wants to be in the playoffs. No other result is acceptable.
