Crawdad Chronicles 37.05 Romero faces decision

SP Sam Romero (http://montybrewster.net/BBA/HTML/news/ ... 26297.html)has a decision to make. Back in 2033 he signed a 6 year 51M dollar deal with the las vegas gamblers. At the time, Romero was a top of the rotation pitcher. The Gamblers gave him an out though. After the 2037 season he could elect to test free agency again. It gave Romero a chance to prove he could pitch for a few years and then hit it big again on the free agency market.

It was a good plan. Now he is faced with a challange.The 33 year old still has some gas in the tank, going 6-5 with a 4.51 ERA. But is he going to command more than the 8.5M he is owed next season?

On one hand, he is unlikely to get that kind of money in one season. But he might over 2 or 3 years. On the flip side, if he plays another year on his current deal, he may never get another contract.

Sources around Romero seem to indicate that he will opt out, but that may not be his best decision.
