Crawdad Chronicles 37.01 - New Orleans cuts Garza
Javier Garza (http://montybrewster.net/BBA/HTML/news/ ... 39875.html) was a prized international free agent (IFA) out of Spain in 2035. The crawdads were so impressed with his potential that they gave him $14.3M in signing bonuses. An astronomical sum, which they now strongly regret.
Garza lumped badly. While his potential at the sign of the signing is unknown, he very quickly went from 9/7/6 in January 2036 to 7/7/3 in January 2037 and 7/7/2 at the time of his release.
The career for a once promising pitcher seems to be at a crossroads. For now, Garza will try to catch on with another team. He might have a chnace, as he is still just 20 years old, and his stats in A ball last year werent terrible.
Still, its a big disapointement for GM Jim Roberts. Having stuck out in the draft and IFA in recent years, his club is looking like they are on the outside looking in for the first time in decades. Spending 14.3M on a pitcher who only made 16 minor league appearances isnt going to help much.

I wanted to keep him in hopes he rebounded...but I decided he was probably dead weight.

Maybe a change of scenery to somewhere where they speak more Spanish instead of French would make him feel more relaxed. Maybe he was just homesick. Maybe I grab him and send him down to Santo Domingo and see how it works out. He cant be any worse than some of the guys I already have down there.JimBob2232 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 07, 2018 10:09 amI wanted to keep him in hopes he rebounded...but I decided he was probably dead weight.

The game theory of what to do with super-young 4 and 5 star players--and how to value them--is something I find interesting. The chances of them panning out are medium-low, and they tend to flare out fairly quickly. So your window to trade them is small.
