Crawdad Chronicles 35.04 -Ramirez Struggling after Trade

Post by JimBob2232 » Wed Jul 04, 2018 4:21 pm

New Orleans needed help in the infield, so they turned to Alex Ramirez, who started his big league career in New Orleans. After 2 unsuccessful years early in his career (hitting .176 in 84 games), he was traded to Brooklyn.

He florished. In the 9 seasons since leaving New Orleans he has hit .290 with an OBP over .330. So, at the age of 31, New Orleans decided to bring him back.

He responded just as he left. In his first 30 games back, he is hitting .171 with a .252 OBP. New Orleans is hopefull that he will revert to the mean, since he does have a BABIP of .207 (vs. a career .321), but they are starting to get nervous.

"It must be something about the park. Something about the air here. He just seems to struggle every time he goes in a game." said local fan Paul Riggins. "He isnt even a positve fielder at 2B/SS! He is a bum, get rid of him".

New Orleans has moved him around the lineup, and it hasnt helped. Its still 30 games, but hope is starting to dim. New Orleans is hoping to crowd-source a reason for his struggles. If any other GM has an idea why he cant perform here...i'm all ears.

Yeah...I hope he turns it around soon. I just can’t figure out what’s wrong...

THe ballparks shouldn't be making much of a difference. Guess he just has to play his way out of it.

He fits the descriptions of one of my (probably not true) OOTP hunches.

-Players don't hit as well when they play a position other then thier highest rated.

Chris Workman on my team is supporting it now. Last season I played him primarily at 1B and he put up his best post-prime offensive season (.285/.383/.472). This year I moved him back to second and he is hitting(.267/.368/.371). Holden Blackwell was notorious for this in his Brooklyn days. When he came up I had a decent platoon at 3B and no 1B. So he played at first base a lot. His 1B rating grew beyond his 3B. I noticed he hit better when playing first and in 2029 I played him at 1B full time. He broke the all time hits and singles record that season and it was by far his best season.

Ramirez seems like that kind of guy. When I had him, I was less into defense and tried to play him as a utility guy. Mostly second with some SS and a little outfield. He sucked for me. Went he went to Vegas he played mostly 3B and his career took off. San Antonio moved him back to second in 2032 and he posted the worst offensive season of his prime. I'm not saying this philosophy is true. But it is something I weigh into my decisions. Another factor to consider is that he is could be close to lumping down a point in contact. Batters not named Clough or Sandcastle seem like they are aging quicker now a days.
