3B Mark Dempsey, one of the all time greats has been ruled out for the playoffs.
Dempsey, just 32 years old, has spent considerable time on the DL each of the past 4 seasons. "I hate it for Mark, and I hate it for us" said GM Jim Roberts. "He is just a competitor, but he seems to be bit with the injury bug"
This time it was a back strain, but previously it has been a strained MCL and torn ankle ligaments.
It will be interesting to see what happens in teh off season. No doubt Dempsey is a great player, but he has a player option this year. There is rumblings he may decline the 10.5M option in hopes someone pays him more money, but with his injury history it could be a hard sell.
The crawdads are rumored to be trying to extend him, but he is looking for in the neighborhood of 6 years 70M, which is more than GM Jim Roberts is likely to pay for an aging superstar.
Dempsey is just 12 HRs away from breaking the all time New Orleans home run record held by Rogelio Morales. That would certainly secure his place on the new Orleans wall of fame.
