Apparently not understanding how this whole process works (or frankly baseball in General), Fernando Pena has demanded a trade. Pena, who was signed to a one year contract in May to help sure up a rotation battered with injuries is frustrated that he is not in the starting rotation and has demanded a trade.
Lets examine some facts.
1) Its October. The season is over. The trade deadline has passed, and he is on a one year contract. He will test Free Agency.
2) Before joining the crawdads, he appeared in 329 career games with CAL, CCJ, and VAL. He only had 10 career starts in those 329 games.
3) He started 16 games for New Orleans this year, and put up a 5-8 record with a 5.07 ERA.
The demand caught GM Jim Roberts by surprise. It just doesnt make any sense to me, but I dont want to comment on it futher. "Fernando will be a Free Agent, and we wish him the best in the future"
The crawdads hope to not need much help in the rotation next year. They were decimated with injuries this season with Gabriel Alfonso, Miguel Datiz, Freddy Delgado all missing the majority of the season.
