Juan Barbosa, 49, who's been pitching coach in the DMO system for ten years, has just signed on for five more years at Class AAA El Paso. That'll extend his duties through 2071, at $195K a year. Barbosa was promoted to El Paso the first year of general manager JRamirez's tenure in Des Moines, and the latter has liked what's he's seen.

Barbosa's pitching coach focus is groundballers. He was born on the first day of primavera (spring) 2015, when Uptown Funk! was number one on the charts. Barbosa shares a birthday with Gary Oldman, Matthew Broderick, Scott Eastwood, Rosie O'Donnell, Benito Juárez, and Johann Sebastian Bach.
Barbosa started his professional career at age 19 with the Assateague Ponies (CCJ). He peaked at age 24 with CCJ's Class AAA team, Annapolis Sailers. Between 2040 and 2054 he worked at a tuna-packing factory in his native Honduras and later coached in the Mexican League.
Observers say he could be poised to take over the Kernel's ML pitching coach spot if Tristan Barber doesn't re-sign for a reasonable amount.
